Leaving Lixouri in the direction of Vouni- Mantzavinata crossing the intersection of Soulllaroi and after having entered Mantzavinata we keep on going for another 500 meters on the way to Vouni and we reach the historical wine factory of the Mantzavino age today belonging to the Company Foivos.

The wine factory’s facilities consist of 2 interesting architectural versions. The first consists of a scheduled traditional industrial building, one of the few that have survived the 1952 earthquake which makes a unique building of cultural heritage with stone- megaliths and the second consists of a building constructed in the post- earthquake method using a great amount of concrete and anti- earthquake protection system.
At this point we unexpectedly meet tastes of wines from rare Greek varieties. Going a little further we can visit the new- built church of Panaghia the Karakali and if we keep on going, we cross the historical vineyard in Vatsa- Katogis which is part of the Foivos Manor as well.

The vineyard constitutes a model of biological cultivation where rare Greek varieties of the vineyard still grow. Passing the vineyard and at just 800 meters we reach the twin beaches Vatsa and Agios Nikolaos. The chapel of Agios Nikolaos has an archeological interest due to the fact that it is built on an ancient Temple of Neptune being decorated with an extraordinary tessellated representation with a trident and dolphins.
Afterwards, we can return through Kounopetra in Lixouri or, if we have enough time, we can continue towards the lighthouse of Gerogomvos, in the western point of Greece and Kefalonia and enjoy and photograph from the fence put into shape, the unique set of the Sun.

Wine factory Foivos

It constitutes the historical continuation of the course in the Kefalonian wine from the ancient years up to nowadays due to its vicinity with the historical vineyard of Katogis which, along with the other historical zone of Robola, constitute the only Vineyard of the Kefalonian land.

The wine factory has given, in the previous century already, some of the best Greek wines that have been diffused in the whole world under the name “ Mantzavino ”.

This course was interrupted in 1996 and since 1999, Foivos S. A., the new property regime, have managed in a few years, turning the rare varieties of its vineyard into advantage and modernizing the old wine factory, to give great wines and labels that will enchant you.
